Jordan Romero Has Done It Again!
Jordan Romero has successfully reached the summit of Carstensz Pyramid, Papua-Irian Jaya-Indonesia on September 2. Carstensz Pyramid is the highest peak in Oceania at 16,023 feet. Not only has he marked another peak off his list in a quest to become the youngest person to climb the Seven Summits, he has also set a new record as the youngest person to achieve the summit of this technical climb. They had initially tried to get to Indonesia earlier this summer but due to political issues in the country, they were unable to enter.
Jordan has previously reached the summit of Denali (North America), Aconcagua (South America), Mt Elbrus (Europe), Kilimanjaro (Africa) and Mt. Kosciuszko (Australia). He has set records on several of these as well as the youngest to set foot on the summit. The Seven Summits has actually become the Eight Summits as some recognize Australia as the continent while others consider all of Oceania as the continent. Most climbers now seeking to climb all include both.
The current record for the Seven Summits is held by 17-year-old Johnny Strange who reached the summit of Everest earlier this year. Jordan has 2 summits remaining in his quest. The last 2 are Vinson Massif (Antarctica) and Everest (Asia). Jordan (along with his dad, Paul Romero, and Karen Lundgren) have plans to attempt Antarctica this winter and Everest in spring. Jordan will be 14-years-old for the summit attempt on Everest.
We will post an update on the Carstensz summit when we have personally heard from the team.
